PLASTICIAN ARTIST

KORKA KASSOGUE

Ouvrons les yeux !

PRESENTATION OF THE ARTIST

After studying design at the Conservatoire des Arts du Mali, Korka Kassogue is on a mission to combat the degradation and pollution of her society’s environment, which is a major issue.

She has seen her city of Bamako polluted and denatured by water bottles, plastic waste, etc… That’s where her fight against plastic through art began, and she has since developed a unique artistic approach. The Malian artist creates design works using plastic that she recovers, cuts into strips and weaves into large formats.

These large formats are no coincidence for the artist: they speak to people, make visible the importance of her fight for a healthy living environment and accentuate the force of her message!

The mediator I

Desertification, water pollution, groundwater contamination, toxic waste, rubbish and waste water, insalubrity and the proliferation of harmful species are a reality here in Mali.

Plastic is a good mediator: it makes it clear that we are not taking care of our environment. The world is our most precious asset, and we all have a duty to protect and preserve it for the benefit of all. Nature is the refuge of all species.

Through my series of 2 works, I’m launching an appeal to the public: they shouldn’t wait for the public services, the hygiene services, to take life-saving initiatives, because they are the first to be affected by the inconvenience caused by degradation. Through these works, I want to show that this waste can be transformed through recycling.

In this respect, art remains a framework for me: it’s about showing a sense of patriotism with my line of wools and my needle. It’s my weapon in the fight against his country’s waste.
